After a lumpy night at sea, ROTTERDAM steamed up the Tagus River to the pier in Lisbon arriving about 1200. The following sequence of pictures are:
Electing to let the stampede of people going ashore for the day precede us, we disembarked at 1330. The car and driver were waiting for us. A traffic jam made a normally 15 minute to the hotel a 45 minute detour. We had a fun, informative driver and there was no urgency to get to the hotel so "nao faz mal".
We were welcomed nicely at the "Ritz" (now the Four Seasons but still known by its former name). After a bit of unpacking we went for a walk. It was sunny but a brisk wind make it chilly. I was wearing leather-soled shoes. Bad choice. The paving stones in the sidewalk were quick slick, especially when walking up or down hill.
This evening we will be having dinner at Lisboa a Noite in the old section of the city.
We definitely enjoyed our five weeks on ROTTERDAM. It is nice to be ashore.

- Portuguese honored on The Monument to Explorers includes Vasco da Gama and Magellan
- 25th of April Bridge is similar in design to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco
- Similar to Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro,Statue of Christ overlooks Lisbon. It was built by the people of Portugal in thanks for not becoming involved in World War II.
